Twitter’s New Button Enables People to DM you Direct from your Website

Direct messaging has become a big focus for the major social platforms - and with good reason. Messaging, according to various reports, is now the number one way people are looking to connect – Facebook’s messaging platforms WhatsApp and Messenger both have more than a billion users per month, putting them well above all social platforms outside of Facebook itself. Twitter’s New Button Enables People to Direct messageing  from your Website As noted that their recent F8 developer conference , Facebook’s now processing around 60 billion messages per day.                                        By comparison (and as shown in the above image), at peak usage rates, global SMS volume was only around 20 billion messages every 24 hours. Google warns it will crack down on “intrusive interstitials” in January 2017

Google has announced that it will begin cracking down on “intrusive interstitials” on January 10, 2017, because this type of ad “can be problematic on mobile devices where screens are often smaller.” Google will be potentially penalizing — i.e., lowering the rankings — of these web pages. Google said “pages where content is not easily accessible to a user on the transition from the mobile search results may not rank as highly.” Google explained which types of interstitials are going to be problematic, including: Showing a popup that covers the main content, either immediately after the user navigates to a page from the search results, or while they are looking through the page. Displaying a standalone interstitial that the user has to dismiss before accessing the main content. Using a layout where the above-the-fold portion of the page appears similar to a standalone interstitial, but the original content has been inlined underneath the fold. Here is a diagram from Google to convey ...

Google Expands ‘Post Directly to Search Results’

Early on in the 2016 US Presidential race, Google introduced a feature which allowed candidates to publish messages directly to the front page of search results. In March 2016, Google was spotted testing this feature with a limited number of small businesses. Now, Google has confirmed to Mike Blumenthal that the test is being expanded from “tens” of small businesses to “thousands”. In addition, the test is expanding beyond the US to include Brazil and India. According to Blumenthal, this was confirmed by the Google My Business team during a Google Hangout. The yet-to-be-named feature gives small businesses the ability to create cards with short messages in search results that are presented in a similar way to how Google presents AMP carousels. When the business’s name is searched for, the most recent messages from that business will appear on the front page of search results. The messages/cards — which can feature text, links, pictures, and videos — will live on a Google server...

Paid search management software: Is it right for your business?

On the surface, paid search management software has all the glitz and glam of a new-age technological marvel. It’s sleek, it’s chic, and it takes the guesswork out of your account management. After all, humans make mistakes — computers don’t. Right? Well… maybe that’s giving them too much credit. Automated account managers are often sold as more intelligent than they really are. Unfortunately, when you buy paid search management software you’re not getting Iron Man’s “Jarvis”… Now, there are advantages to trained monkeys, don’t get me wrong. They’re great for predictable, menial tasks, and they’ll work for bananas. But you’ll want to think twice about how much of your business you hand over to them. So, if you want to avoid monkey business in your paid search account, here are six questions you should consider before signing off on paid search management software: 1. Why am I doing this? The first thing you need to ask yourself is why you are actually considerin...

Bing Ads rolls out Upgraded URLs globally

Soon after Google introduced Upgraded URLs — the URL format that allows users to change tracking parameters in existing ads without affecting the ad’s history or serving by separating the landing page information from the tracking parameters — Bing Ads announced it would adopt them as well. Users have been able to import ads with Upgraded URLs from AdWords since last summer. On Tuesday, Bing Ads announced Upgraded URLs are being rolled out for all ads in all markets. As in AdWords, there will be separate fields for URLs and parameters: 1. Final URL – This is landing page URL only and replaces the destination URL field. A separate mobile URL can be set as well. 2. Shared Tracking Template – This is where those using URL parameters for tracking add that information. Bing Ads recommends setting this at the account level. For those currently using {param} tracking to capture keywords, you should remove those and instead set up keyword final URLs. 3. Custom Parameters – Advertisers can...
